    Morpeth (Berry Park), NSW
    29 September 1996

Much of New South Wales was plagued by severe thunderstorms on the 29th of September, 1996. Many of the storms which developed were supercells and as a result large hailstones, strong winds and tornadoes were hitting many locations in New South Wales. Because of this, the 29th of September, 1996 was regarded as being the most tornadic day in New South Wales in recent years. Reports of 4cm hail was received from Muswellbrook and Hawks Nest. The photos below shows a supercell storm near Morpeth and some of the hail that remained after the storm had passed through. The hail around the Morpeth area was 4cm in diameter and there were reports of 6cm hail falling in Hinton from the same system.

See Jimmy Deguara's reports of the tornadoes that hit near Gilgandra and Bundella on this day.
